MicroStation SIG #4 - ProjectWise for MicroStation Users

We are now starting registration for our fourth MicroStation SIG event which will be ProjectWise for MicroStation Users!

Register for MicroStation SIG: ProjectWise for MicroStation Users today!

Online Event:  MicroStation SIG: ProjectWise for MicroStation Users

Live Q&A Webinar:  Tuesday, December 10th at 8:00 AM PST or 3:00 PM PST (click on the links to convert to your local time)

Cost:  None!  Must register for video links and connection info.  Register here!

Description: Whether new to ProjectWise or an experienced user, you will benefit by learning how ProjectWise works!  You will also learn more advanced techniques to search for documents, drawings, and 3D models via external characteristics of the file or contents.  For example, a search could be, “show me all the files in my project that refer to pump xyz 101”.  You will see how quickly ProjectWise lists the spreadsheets, Word files, PDFs, MicroStation Drawings, and 3D models that contain “xyz 101” including in MicroStation, InRoads, Revit, AutoCAD or other files.  Start from the suggested video and then post any questions you have on Be Communities so they can be answered during the Live Q&A Webinar.

To register for MicroStation SIG: ProjectWise for MicroStation Users, please visit the BentleyLEARN site: http://learn.bentley.com/app/Public/GetLiveCourseOfferings?CourseId=107996&lpId=105422&FreeForAll=False

Note that the presentation recordings will be available a short while after the sessions are completed -- you can see the MicroStation SIG "series" here (the presentations should be available one to two weeks after the sessions were recorded).

  • Could there be a link to somewhere I can download this [once it has taken place] and all the other SIG events [past and future] so I can watch these events at a time suitable to myself?

I realise the aim of these things is to be live and participated in but that has proved to be difficult for me. I also think it would be benificial to have a record of these, all in one place, as a useful learning/ reference aid.

  • FWIW, we updated the original post in this thread with links to the Learning Path for the recordings (note that all of them are not there... yet) and a time conversion to assist in determing the local times around the world for the sessions.

  • Do you mean the link in the last para?

"the presentation recordings will be available a short while after the sessions are completed -- you can see the MicroStation SIG "series" here"

That leads to just a single, future, Accudraw SIG (which has different agenda of preview videos, compared to the 29 Oct Accudraw one that I attended).

It doesn't have links to any live class videos, let alone to the previous "series" of them. Anyway, I thought that only participants were being given the video of the live class that they attended. For example, the live class video of the 29 Oct Accudraw SIG has only just today been sent to participants.

Not knocking these FREE SIGS, nor the FREE Ask the Instructor sessions, nor the other FREE regular classes now on BentleyLearn - they're all first class - but the information/publicity is still chaotic.

  • Why are Bentley people rightly allowed to post MS-relevant BentleyLearn items in this MS forum, but any forum members' topics about same are being exiled to Bentley Institute forum, where they'll come to almost no ones' attention?

There has been some discussion regarding where to "host" information about the SIGs. Originally, we thought it was better to put discussions and questions regarding the SIGs in the Bentley Institute community, but we are now looking to loosen that up so questions relating to a specific SIG take place in the community that specifically applies to that SIG.

What we were trying to avoid were instances where one (popular) community would become the "catch all" for ALL things relating to SIGs -- we actually started seeing that happen (right? :). At this point, we are asking that discussions and questions about the MicroStation SIG take place in the MicroStation community, discussions and questions about the AECOsim Building Designer SIG take place in the Building Analysis and Design community, etc. With discussions and questions about SIGs in general taking place in the Bentley Institute community. We believe this to be a good happy medium. Unless you disagree...

  • No that sounds just right.

What about the live class videos? Available to all, or just to attendees? Where available, other than emailed direct to attendees?

  • There are two sets of videos.  Those that we ask you to watch prior to the live session and then the recording of the session.  All are available to anyone who registers for the event and registration is free.   While some who register will not be able to attend we hope enough attend that we get some good questions to answer.

As for when the recording of the live event is uploaded I had hoped we could turn it around the same day but that wasn't realistic.  I think it will end up being approx. 1 week between the live session and the recording.  The reason is for the service we are using we have to download the video, make some edits to take out extra time at the beginning and end and then we send to Bentley who needs a few days to get it uploaded to the Bentley Learn server.  They send the links back to us and then we distribute.

We have appreciated your feedback because it helps continue our push in the right direction.
