linestyle with filled head and tail

Question

Dear All, 
 I want to create a linestyle with filled head and tail at the ends of line. How to create it using line style editor? Refer the attached screenshot

Hi Dharmarajan, 
 In addition to the tutorial that Henk has suggested, what you can do if you only want the symbols to appear at the beginning and at the end of the line is to set the symbols for the "Origin" and "End" in the point component. For example, when you create your point component, select the box marked "Origin" and then hit the "select" button to choose the symbol. Repeat this for the "End" option and then set your base stroke pattern and add this to your compound line. This should get you the linestyle with the symbols appearing only at the beginning and end of the line.

I just hate the microstation linestyle creation system, I have hated it for 20+ years.. its way too clumsy, too complex, and too powerful..and has not changed since version 5 for DOS! 
 Most of us usually end up giving up and use an autocad linestyle instead or a work around ... 
 The easiest work around is to create a cell of your arrow then place a smart line and use the linear pattern pattern tool to patternate your line with the arrow cell this will also work if you export to DWG as it is not dependant on custom line styles... 
 It takes a bit of trial and error but far fewer attempts than using the horrible linestyle editor in mstn...and unless its vital you get it right and use that line style it alot.. then dont bother with the linestyle editor.. and use the work around... 
 Yes if you do it a lot and often then you'll master it but those times are few and so far between that you wont remember all the nuances in getting it right... 
 I dont get enough time at work to fiddle around with the linestyle editor .. takes a couple of hours for a complex line type ... even something as simple as ---- GAS---- 
 is way too hard in mstn and only needs notepad to do as an acad line type...which thankfully we can use in mstn instead of the mstn line type when needed.. 
 bentley should create an easier or simpler interface or a better method to create similar to the way we make cells for relative simple line styles and leave the really complex editor for editing more complex or refining a simple line style ... in any case the clip below shows you the tool to linear pattern... very quick for one offs...

Hi Dharmarajan, 
 In the attached LineStyle.zip you will find: halfarrow.rsc with in it two example line styles that may be of help to you. One style is build of just a stroke (name: BlockStrokeArrow), the other one (name: HalfBlockLineArrow) is compound build of a block symbol, a solid line and an arrow symbol. See which one suits best. 
 Copy the attached halfarrow.rsc into the folder with your other line styles and (re-)start MicroStation. 
 Regarding the line disappearing when zooming: Does that happen at a specific zoom level? 
 Can you create a service request (http://appsnet.bentley.com/srmanager/addcall.aspx) and attach your .rsc file as well as a dgn in which you see this behavior, so that we can analyze properly?

Create a three segment stroke pattern. All dashes, all 1 unit in Length. Set the Repetitions to Count, Value zero (0). 
 Set segment one as shown. 
 
 Set segment two as shown below. Note the Length is Variable. 
 
 Set the last segment as shown below. 
 
 The last part, is to make the linestyle a compound, with one stroke pattern Internal Solid Stroke and the other stroke the one described above. 
 The reason for this is to avoid having the center segment that is centered on the line while the end segments are offset only to one side. This compound trick causes the beginning and ending segments to widen to the opposite side of their stroke by the width of the middle stroke - which is weight driven, not width driven. 
 With this being a compound, the center segment could be set to a gap, since the solid line is coincident with it.

you need to write a true instructional manual on his and update the bentley help... the old intergraph hard copy manual does explain a lot but...its still not user friendly and not enough examples...
