Description: There are many web sites that offer their version of MicroStation Tips & Tricks. This special interest group web meeting will bring five of those tips and tricks sites together in one location using the “flipped classroom” approach. This one webinar promises to increase MicroStation user productivity more than any other hour of the year! To get maximum benefit from this Special Interest Group meeting, registrants will be sent links to the sites and explore the tips and tricks most applicable to their line of work. Questions can then be posted on Be Communities. The webinar itself will go over what are considered the “top ten” tips and tricks, and then will answer any questions that have been posted or asked during the webinar.
1) Can you go over how to customize tasks, context menus, etc? I've seen this done but can't seem to do it on my own.
2) Can you go over the Google Map Integration tools a little more? I want to see how to import an image from Google Map or Google Earth into my drawing with everything geo-referenced.
Thank you.
When I hover my mouse over an element I can see some information such as element type, level, whether it's a reference file, etc. Is there a way to make it show more info than that? Thanks.
Eric,
1) Customizing is a great topic especially in terms of increasing productivity, which is why we actually have an entire SIG devoted specifically to customizing MicroStation. So I will hold off on showing that during this SIG and wait until then to really go into detail on the customization tools available.
2) I will add the Google Maps Integration bit to the list that we will talk about during the SIG. That is a great feature of MicroStation and I'd be happy to demo some of its functionality.
Your last question is referring to what we call the Pop-up Info. As of now, the information listed in that cannot be edited. However, we will see some tips during the SIG to find other information about an element just as quickly. So be sure to tune in tomorrow to the SIG.
Thanks for your questions.
HTH,
Danny Lazear
1. Is there a way to change dimension styles quickly? For example I reference a file with some dimensions in it and they look just fine, as soon as I copy in the elements the dimension do something funky and there is no way around it, I have to erase all of the dimension and replace them with my own. Is there a fix for this?
2. Can you comment on using true type fonts vs. custom fonts. Which one is better, pros and cons of each.
Thank you,
Nick Tishkov

Create Text and Dimension styles stored in a dgnlib (in your networked workspace if you have one), apply them to the imported dimensions. Search these communities and the help documents for more information on styles. Once your styles are setup make the dgnlib read only using Windows file or folder permisisions.

TrueType is better when sharing data with other users and applications, best option is to use a commonly installed system TrueType font (even if they are a bit boring) then your text will have the same font wherever it goes (within reason)
