With V8 you could select a rectangle, click it again, and you would get handles for the midpoints that would allow you to resize that

RE: V8i midpoint handles?

I use AccuDraw, but I did not know you could do that. Thanks!

Moving the pointer along an axis you press <Enter> for the smart lock feature. Recognizing that you are indexed along an axis, AccuDraw locks the direction but allows you to move up and down the axis.

Modify Element tool also works, but I prefer the AccuDraw method because it does not require the additional tool selection.

RE: V8i midpoint handles?

Those likely weren't segment mid-point handles, they sound like the old scale handles which are based on the rotated range of the element (your element just happened to be a rectangle making them look like segment mid-point handles).

Since as Jan stated you can accomplish the same thing with the vertex handles, also having segment mid-point handles just seemed too busy. It's not bad for a simple rectangle, but for large linestrings/chains that extra mid-point control for every segment gets to be a bit much...

yes, you are right, the handles has changed in V8i. But the same functionality is still available: If I pick a handle of a rectangle, I can lock to AccuDraw axis, so the whole edge is moved.

If you don't use AccuDraw, you can use Modify Element tool, it moves the edge also.

With regards,
