If you bring the sheet to the model, you have to rotate the view, not the viewport (xref to the model).

This is where you can't have a 1 to 1 discussion of AutoCAD vs MicroStation. While referencing in the model into the sheet is the equivalent to having a viewport in paperspace, and "Activating" that reference file in MicroStation is similar to switching to modelspace while in a layout, it is far from identical.

But making the statement that AutoCAD has no limitations - on these forums, that's just asking for trouble.

Can you reference the paperspace into another paperspace or a model?

Can you reference a file to itself?

Can you create multiple models in a single file?

Can you display linetypes on 3D polylines?

If we want to continue this discussion, we should start a new thread.

RE: How to read label coordinates in layout sheet from attached references

Why to rotate paperspace?
Yes, as mentioned by CadCop this is done by definining an ACS from the reference. To to that, open your sheet and ensure your references are attached correctly. Navigate to the Auxiliary Coordinates dialog and choose Define ACS (Aligned by Reference). Refer to the prompts and select the reference. Also, change the name from Unnamed to something of value.

To use this for labeling, open the Drawing Scale dialog, turn on the Lock Auxilary Coordinate System button and choose / set the active ACS. Finally, choose the Label Point tool and it will automatically use the ACS coordinates.

Historically from what I've seen MS users typically use the method of scale and fit the sheet over model while AutoCAD users typically move and scale the model to fit the sheet.

The advantage of moving and scaling the sheet is everything will measure correctly and coordinates space is coincident.

RE: How to read label coordinates in layout sheet from attached references

We always bring the sheet to the model in our layouts, scaling the border up to the drawing.
