Apply Saved Veiw to Individual Reference

Is there a way to apply a saved view to apply to an individual reference?

Say I have a container file that references in a topo dgn multiple times; one reference to show only existing objects that will remain, one reference to show only object to be removed, one reference for exisiting utilities, etc.  I have multiple container files that I'll need to show the same leveling of the topo, although each container will show a progression of removal/construction.  I want to be able to apply a saved view to the referenced topo file that's supposed to show only existing objects that will remain, etc.  I also have other references files that utilize some of the same levels used in the topo file.

  • Not totally following what your are doing however you can assign reference attachments to a level.  So you could try something like create a level  FILE-UTIL-EXIST and attach file to that level then create saved views with the appropriate  levels on and off.

  • Have a look at reference attach by Named Group if the elements you look at are stable. (=few new)

If you plan to ad many elements you need to use different levels (phase 1, phase 2 etc) and level mask on the attachments.

If you don't need to change orientation of the ref I would try without Saved Views.

My guess is you will want REFERENCE DISPLAY OVERRIDES to ALLOW and NEW LEVEL DISPLAY to ON.

  • Thanks for your responses.

DavidG - I'm not for certain, but it seems like what you suggest would allow for the entire reference to be on/off depending on the saved view.

In general, what I am trying to accomplish is to be able to set the level display of a particular reference file to be the same in each container file.  Creating and applying a saved view will affect the container file and all other reference files that are referenced in.  I want to be able to apply a saved view to only one reference file.

If I cannot apply the same level display (on/off) between each container file, I would at least like to be able to "lock" the level display of the references so they cannot be manipluated on/off (by others) after the correct level display is set.  Is this possible?

    TIA

  • Sorry,  I never heard of a container file.

Sounds like you have  FILE_1  attach to it is   File_T (with Level A & B on) also File T is attached again with Level X & Y on)

Now you want to create FILE_2 with the same File_T setup

    Is that correct?

  • Yes. But is inevitable that someone accidentally turns on/off a level in one of the files (FILE_1 or FILE_2) so they no longer have the same level display. I would like to be able to quickly apply something (saved view, filter, etc) that would get me back to the original level display. Or be able to "lock" the display once it's set.
