Compress Reference File Slot Numbers?

Say you have a .dgn that has 30 reference files attached, but the 30th reference file has a slot number of 40. So you have detached some reference files in the past that have left some slots open. Is there a way (without manually renaming each slot past the first empt slot number) to move all the reference files up to fill the empty slot numbers?

Kind Regards,

Scott

  • It's  not so much that I want to change slot numbers as it is, when I attach multiple references at once, I want them to all be together in the reference dialog list. If I have slot numbers that aren't filled my multiple references fill those first and will not be together in the list (sorted by slot number).

It'd really be nice if you could select the reference files you wanted to "compress slot #" on. That way if you had  some references that you wanted to remain untouched (say you numbered them 100 and above to keep them at the bottom) you   could.

  • This appears to be 2 separate issues:

1.) Where you would be able to re-order reference slot numbers quickly if necessary.

    -AND

2.) The ability to selectively pick which reference files are are compressed.

    Is this correct?

For item number #1 change request #10028 has been filed.

For item number #2, I can private message you in order to setup a service request to file this issue as a change request as well. You can reply to this discussion and let me know if you would like to do this.

  • #1 Awesome. Thank you.

#2 It would be great to get this going.

For #2 I'm thinking that the work flow might be:

    1. If the reference file dialog list is not sorted by slot then the command would be grayed out.

    2. If more than one reference file was selected, the command would only compress slot numbers on those references

    Kind Regards,

  • You can add me to that SR! It is painful to renumber the slots. I use this a lot because we have multiple print boundaries in a single file (multiple sheet boarders with plot fences referenced to one file). Batch Print & Print Organizer chooses multiple boundaries by the slot number in reference manager. So if the sheet boarders are not referenced contiguously they will not plot in the correct order. I can modify this by changing the slot number for each reference but it takes a long time.

  • I have filed CR# 86941

Add ability  to remove empty reference file slot numbers and at the same time renumber the attached reference slots so they are consecutive. Add functionality of compressing slot numbers only on a selected range of reference files. This would allow for keeping certain files at the bottom of the reference file list, i.e. those numbered starting with 100,

  • Was this feature ever implemented? I'm looking for a way to remove empty slot numbers and renumber attached reference slots so they are consecutive.

    Thanks
