Creating Custom Linetype

New to microstation *

I'm trying to create a linetype that looks like this:

....    ....    ....    ....

I'm not having any luck by going to element -> linestyles , and trying to create in there. Any advice on this situation?

Thanks

  • why cant line styles by like creating cells old school way  ie draw what you want it to look like 1:1 , put origin at one end and put a fence around  it  "load the create line types pallet icon  ( yet to be made tool) "and press create and boom done!

been waiting for this for 20+ years .... yes  please we can have it for simple line styles  and keep the current one for really complex ones  keep everyone happy otherwise for now its just easier to use the autocad lin workaround approach...

  • You can do this now.

Draw a line and place the pattern along the line using the "Linear Pattern" tool

  • Lorys: I totally agree - something need to be done about the atrocious linestyle creator/editor.

    MickyKom: "Linear Patterns" - shudder!

  • As MickeyKom said you can do this now with Linear Patterning and that's very easy for any beginner to understand. just create the line work, create a cell from it and use it in the Linear Patterning tool.

I realize that creating Custom Line Styles is not simple. But then again they are so flexible and can be so complex with the ability to create symbols with filled areas, and different colors and Line Codes, parallel lines of different types/weights, shifting & modification of dash & gap scales dash widths, 3D Line Styles, etc., etc., etc., etc.. What features do you want to remove to make it simple? I would hope none! If you want simple just use the Linear Patterning with a cell.

The Line Style I created for southpawj05 took a couple of minutes to create. It would have looked the same if you had created a cell and used that but you would loose some of the flexibility of the Custom Line Style. Like anything else the more flexibility the harder it is to create or learn to create. You just have to invest the time to learn and once you learn you have to reinforce it by doing it as often as you can or you will loose it. Everyone builds their knowledge upon what they already know so creating the line Style using the .lin (ASCII) way works OK too. but if you want other abilities (i.e. parallel line work, etc.) you have to learn the tool. You didn't learn how to drive a car safely in an hour or a day. I'm still trying to invest the time to learn Dimension Driven Cells which seems to be somewhat similar to the Dynamic Blocks in A-CAD (but not quite!).

Sorry for the rant! Just my 2¢ !
