[V8i] Circular Fillet

Let's study what is the most effective way to modify the radius!

For the MicroStation V8i SS3's hotkey, "7" represent "modify". I think Bentley can do some improvement/combination works on the number "9"' tool?

Parents
  • When you mention the "hotkey" for "7" representing "modify" as well as the tool representing "9" are you meaning the Position Mapping keys for these tools? I would assume, therefore, that the tool that is represented by the number "9" under the Modify toolbar is the "Construct Circular Fillet" tool. What sort of improvements are you recommending for this tool and how does the image relate to these. Further details would be required if an Enhancement Request is needed for any changes to this tools operations.

  • Yes, hotkey "7-9" is to activate the "Construct Circular Fillet" tool.

Firstly, I am not suggesting to submit an enhancement request unless there's really no good solution. Actually, as I am not the master of MicroStation so I would like to first seek what is the fastest way now for Microstation to modify the circular fillet. Deep in my heart, I'm quite desire a tool which would provide a one-click modification method (most likely impossible).

As I am not good at English presentation, let me know if you don't understand the enhancement request.

    1. Set the radius
    2. Set truncate
    3. Point to that Arc element / Arc as sub element in complex chain
    4. Left click mouse one time so as to tell program to start temporary draw mode.
    5. As the above picture attached, it automatically re-trims lines which are connecting to Arc element, delete old arc element and construct new arc element. (or directly construct a new one and keep original)
    6. If the modified Arc position is not correct (assume there's some complex case), right click mouse one time, until the calculated solution is right
    7. Left click mouse one time, to tell the program to complete.

    ......

Bentley may want to reference this solution and then upgrade the circular fillet tools.

    ..........Am I too greedy?

  • You're a master. I completely don't know Bentley designed such thing on the Modify Element tool. I usually only use it when I want to adjust the dimension position (because dimension has two handles, use Modify element tool would be faster).

  • An explanation for each of the option relating to modifying an arc using the Modify Element tool can be found in the Help Documentation under:

    > Contents > Working with Existing Elements > Changing Elements > Modify Toolbox > Modify Element

    • To Modify the Sweep Angle of an Arc

    • To Modify the Radius of an Arc Without Changing Its Center Point

    • To Modify the Radius of an Arc Without Changing Its Endpoints

As well as a number of other methods to modify elements in different manners.

What I would like to ask is whether the method you are asking for is to adjust the Radius of the Arc interactively, or using AccuDraw, and to adjust the EndPoints accordingly along with the radius center point?

A simple method would be just to use the Construct Circular Fillet tool again, rather than using the Modify Element tool, using the lines that exist but using a new radius. This should create a new fillet separate from the existing fillet.

  • Thanks your help, Andrew.

Should be: adjust the radius of the arc interactively. I guess there is only one parameter required.

This method would be useful for modifying the bending of reinforcement. And I would like to particularly notice that this new function would like to be added into MicroStation V8i (it will be kept maintained) but not just for that MicroStation x64.

  • Why is it that you are now discussing the operation of the Place Arc tool. I have been working on this issue with the impression that you have originally created this Arc using the Construct Circular Fillet tool. How is the Place Arc tool involved with the request?

  • What I meant is: In the Place Arc Tool there is a parameter "Radius". And that item should be added into to new method.

So that we can match the first step listed above - "Set the radius".
