Is there a way to set pattern angle by selecting an element or by 2 points.
I'm not sure whether this is going to help but keyin to define the pattern angle is PA= or ACTIVE PATTERN ANGLE. This can be used outside of the Pattern Area tool but I cannot see any need to do this outside of the tool as it only allows a value to be entered. A quick search did not seem to locate any Enhancement Requests for this capability. You might like to request this via a new Service Request.

The following thread also has some additional suggestions on retrieving and setting the active angle ( Not pattern angle ), which may be of help in at least obtaining the angle for pasting into the patterning tool settings or using the PA=<angle> keyin.

Can you use the new Element Information dialog to find the angle reported within for the element and then copy and paste that into the pattern tool settings?
Microstation CONNECT - 10.17.2.61
ORD - 2021 R1 10.10.1.3
ORD 2022 R1.1 - 10.11.3.2
ORD 2022 R3 - 10.12.2.4
Microstation v8i SS 10 - 08.11.09.919
Power InRoads v8i - 08.11.09.615
ProjectWise - 10.0.3.453
M Wlong I could but that defeat the propose of a quick on click. I can use set by 2 points and then type in the angle.
I'm lazy. I'm actually surprised that this is not a feature in the pattern dialog

Time for a CR to be filed. I know, it will still take a loooooooong time to get it implemented.
I was hoping some one may have a marco or vba for this 1
keyin active angle pt2 ( this is to workout Active angle from object by 2 points)
so you could then make your macro to set the active angle from element via the elect element prompt then use the active angle pt2 , then get the angle and put it into PA=AA then commands to select pattern and place pattern sounds easy but you'll have make it your self.. I always use the record to work out most of the commands..
then build it from scratch...

Started msnt work 1990 - Retired Nov 2022 ( oh boy am I old )
But was long time user V8iss10 (8.11.09.919) dabbler CE update 16 (10.16.00.80)
MicroStation user since 1990 Melbourne Australia.click link to PM me
There is a very simple way to do this...
workflow:
- Activate hatch/cross hatch/pattern tool
- identify the object by giving a datapoint
- Now place the pointer on the initiate point and give <Ctrl>Tentative (or O(rigin) with the focus in the AccuDraw dialog)
- Rotate the AccuDraw compass by RQ, RA or RE aligned with the element. The PA will be set from AccuyDraws X-(red)axis.
- Accept hatch/cross hatch/pattern by a DataPoint at the initiate location.
Hope this will be of any help.
For a CR i would like the Accudraw compass automatically placed at the selected point, so you should see under witch Axis the pattern angle is placed.

got a simpler macro that a kind microstation user sent me. click on the element and presto your angle is set

Because it's up to the generous author to share, not to the grateful recipient.

Jon this is true. But I have noticed all to often that in the Autocad community they share much more than the Microstation community. I think this leads some to believe that Autocad is better or easier to write code for.
