When I rotate in 3D view sections of my model disappears in the foreground and parts in the background, and I can't seem to see everything unless I go back to top view. Is there a way I can keep my model from disappearing or getting cut off when I rotate in 3D?
Try Settings > View Attributes (turn Front & Back Clipping Planes Off)

That did it! Thank you George
Are clipping planes useful for anything at all these days?
probably not, but if you have a slow computer that's not really made for graphics then maybe
Not so much. It is necessary only because you can not set the Active Depth outside the Clipping Planes (Display Depth) limits. I used to use them before Clip Volume was available to show sections. You can do now with the Clip Volume & Dynamic Views. Takes a while for those old things to fade away. I still might use them occasionally, when explaining Active Depth and Display Depth to people that are not 3D literate. It's just another tool in that toolbox! YOU NEVER KNOW! Do you ever throw tools away?
