DEPTH LOCK

Hello,

I'm using Microstation V8i (SELECT series 2).

I have two questions.

1. How can I use the old style depth lock without bothering with ACS or Accudraw ?

2. How can I display TRUE coordinates (including z) along the bottom of screen ? Unrelated to any ACS or Accudraw plane !!!!!!!!!

For reasons that are too complicated to state I am unable to use update sequence, priority, or transparency to get what I want

so I have resorted to drawing hatching, shading, text labels at different z-depths.

For this reason I need depth lock which works. Sometimes I do not want Accudraw to index so I switch it off and then my depth lock stops working.

If anybody from Bentley is reading : You have removed things over the years but removing depth lock was a crime. A crime !!!!! PUT IT BACK PLEASE

Just use the same tools you always have to set the active depth for your view...but then instead of enabling Depth Lock, you enable ACS Plane Snap...it really is that simple.

    2. Are you asking about the running coordinates dialog that you can enable for the status bar? Click on it and choose "Position" for the readout.

You might want to try using the LI shortcut instead in these situations. When AccuDraw is not currently indexed, using LI will prevent it from locking onto an index line as you move the mouse until the next data point. If AccuDraw is indexed, LI will instead lock that index.

  • Hi Fraser! In a Forum like this you should only have one question per post.

The old "Depth Lock" is no longer. You will have to use the "ACS Plane Snap" which replaced the Depth Lock. You don't have to use AccuDraw to use the ACS Plane Snap.

To display the Coordinate value at the bottom of the screen (in the M-Sta. Task Bar) all you have to do is Snap to the location. Assuming you have the TP Mode set to Locate (Set TPMode Locate). You can get the Coordinates to display using AccuSnap in the AccuSnap Settings (Rt Click on AccuSnap button) Turn on the "Update Statusbar Coordinates" There is also an option to display "Running Coordinates" (as your cursor moves) you can turn on. Just Rt Click on the Right side area of the Statusbar (from the Snaps over).

AFA Update Priority. That only works in 2D. Transparency should work in 2D or 3D. There is an option in the Display Styles you can go to Wireframe and there is a setting to "Use File Order for Display" that may help. but in general in a 3D file you must use the depth along your views line-of-site to set what displays on top of what. You have an option to reference a 3D file to a 2D if that helps.
