Scaling Elements

I am trying to scale a shared cell. I select it, then pick the Scale button from the Manipulate toolbox. I want to scale it down 0.25 from its present size. I leave the scale setting at Active Scale but when I try to change the XYZ scale factors to 0.25 it reverts to 0.00000. I can't get how I can simply select an object and scale it down by a scale factor that I specify. This has got to be very simple to do, so I must be overlooking something.

thanks,

david

  • The Scale tool should work fine when it comes to entering the XYZ scale factor value(s). If you have the "lock" toggled on then any value that has been entered into either the X, Y or Z would be replicated to the other items. Could it be that this is what you are seeing? Maybe you could supply screen captures to should how this is being displayed on your system.

  • doesnt making changes to a specific  shared cell  automatically change all instances of said shared cell?

.. if so I recommend you drop the shared cell back to ordinary cell first ......before you attempt any changes to a shared cell...

  • No, lock on or lock off makes no difference. Maybe it’s drawing specific – the reversion to either 1 or 0 (not sure exactly which situation I got those results, I tried a million things to get it to work), is all I get. I wanted 0.25 as the XYZ scale factor, but as soon as I tab from the X field to the Y field it changes itself to 0.00000 (usually, sometimes it changed to 1.000000). I tried this with different objects, cells, lines, etc., and what I am scaling doesn’t matter – it simply won’t allow me to enter a meaningful scale factor.

3 point scaling works, by the way, but that seems like a pretty much useless option unless you were to create lines at specific lengths and angles to snap to when scaling.

The dgn originated from AutoCAD, so maybe that had something to do with it. Dwg’s seem to carry weird settings with them.

  • I don’t know, Lorys. I will test it now …

Nope, I did a 3 point scale (my only way to scale) to one of two shared cells that have the same name and are identical, but only one changed.

I am including a screen capture of what I see: I entered 0.25 into the X field, tabbed to the Y field, X changed itself to 0.000000. Z was already at 0.000001 when the dialog opened. I used a method to flatten Z values the other day where I scaled everything by 1,1,0.000001, so maybe it remembered me doing that, I do not know.

I can’t wait till I master this dang software and I can quit bugging you good people. You’ve all been very helpful.

  • can you fence  say an area that has typical cell and key in FF=

then you will be prompted for a file name and where to save  then upload this dgn here or email it to me offline

I want to look at your dgn file as scaling cells ie no different to any other element..

Also go to your design file settings and write down all the settings or screen capt and up load .. why because what you describe is just wrong cad doesnt work like this.. when you select scale tool does it look like this
