Microstation treating a slingle left click as click and hold in level display, level manager and reference manager.

In Reference Manager, Level Manager, and Level Display dialogues, when selecting an item with one click of the left mouse button and then moving mouse away, Microstation reacts as if the mouse button is still pressed and will select everything in the list of levels or references while the mouse passes over the items. This is does not happen with every click, but does more often than not. It’s especially troublesome when switching levels off as it can inadvertently switch off all the levels, leaving the user trying to remember what the previous level display setting were.

Has anyone else encountered a similar problem?

  • There are a number of things that I can think of that may affect the operation here.

    • What version of MicroStation are you using and which version of Windows has it been installed onto? This can quite important as each version of MicroStation has been certified for use up to certain versions of Windows. As well as certain versions of MicroStation containing bugs that may have been repaired in a newer version.
    • This may be related to the graphics card driver being used on this system. It may be worth checking with the manufacturer of the graphics card to ensure you have the latest release.
    • Settings in the Mouse Driver may be affecting the speed and operation of the clicks on your mouse. It may be worth having a look at you mouse drivers settings.

Any other information you could supply to assist with the investigation of your issue would be helpful. You might like to supply the System Info which can be found under the menu in MicroStation:

    > Help > About MicroStation > System Info...

The system information dialog allows you to Export to a text File which may be helpful in identifying what you have on your system.

  • Thanks for your reply Andrew.

    I'm running MicroStation V8i SS3 - Version 08.11.09.459 on Windows 7.

We have had a look at the graphics card and mouse drivers everything seems to be up to date and the problem also happens on different workstations with different graphics cards and mice as well. Again though everytinhg seems to be up to date.

For what it's worth, this problem is not exclusive to the Melbourne office in my organisation, I have had discussions with CAD manager colleages in Sydney, they have experienced the same problems. I have also spoken with CAD managers in Melbourne with other organisations, and they have experienced the same problems too, but no one has been able to find a solution yet.

I posted on here to see how many other people / organisations have experienced simillar problems and if there are any known solutions.

  • There seems to be a number of users recording issues with a new driver for some Nvidia graphics cards.

If you use an Nvidia graphics card check what driver you are using. If it's the 340.52 version and more users have reported this problem with it the solution seems to be to install the older version, e.g. 331.82.

It may also be worth supplying the System Info as requested so we can investigate which graphics cards this issue is related to. At the moment it just seems to be the Nvidia Quadro FX cards.

  • We are aware of the recent problem with Nvidia drivers displaying drawn graphics incorrectly and most users have rolled back to the previous drivers.

This is a much older problem though and doesn't seem to be related in any way.

I'm using Nvidia Quadro 1000M other users have different Nvidia graphics cards and other users have different graphics cards entirely.

Another issue with the problem is that it's intermittent, so we can be working away normally for a while and then it happens.

I've posted some of the system info file below, I assume you don't want the whole thing!
