how to avoid people making any changes on a reference file. it is in a specific folder and don't know who made the change, the folder is open for all designers.
I did some digging into this here and it seems the only option outside of network permissions is to use certificates and MicroStation based file security.
As you probably know, a reference file is read-only in MicroStation, so when used as intended your designers can't edit the file.
The way to prevent a file — any file — from being edited is to use the operating system access control. Use the operating system to make either the file or its containing folder read-only. You may find that it's possible to grant read-only access to the entire group of 'designers', with adminiistrators (i.e. you and your peers) having read-write access. Consult your IT department.

Hi Bear can you give more detailed information on using certificates and MicroStation based file security.
Hi Jon the folder is for all designers to place their reference files so for all of them have the read-write access.
If you search the help file under certificate you'll get a fair bit of information. It does open a can of worms in that you'll need to work through your custom vb etc. as well. Would be nice to streamline this ability.
