I have a 2 tiff file of Aerials of the same location taken in different years one in 2007 and other in 2010 with major construction changes like new building etc. and the properties of each are shown below. I'm trying to attach this using raster manager but I'm only able to do so with the 2007 where with the 2010 I'm getting a can not read tiff error. Is there a solution for this or is the file or bit size just to big for MicroStation to take. This files where taken from a usgs.gov website so they a coordinately attaching right so i don't know if compressing them would change that or not. Any help or pointing me in the right direction would be of great help and gladly appreciated. If I was unclear or you need more information feel free to let me know as well.
2007 Tiff (286 MB)
2010 Tiff (381 MB)
Raster Manager has virtually no maximum limit size and and you should be able to attach your raster files to Raster Manager without any problem.
Also the information about the TIFF files you posted seems standard.
One think though is MicroStation V8 2004 is not certified for Windows 7 and some users have already mentioned some problem here on BE Communities (see for example communities.bentley.com/.../198899.aspx).
The other possible problem might be that the 2010 TIFF file is using new features that is not supported by MicroStation V8 2004.
Could you tell me where can the problematic file be downloaded on the USGS site?
I am running W7 64 system but I have also tried to attach it with a computer running XP and still get the same outcome. When it comes to size that's what I had imagine because i have attached .sid files which are alot bigger then this. I was able to attach it using V8i but when i try to open it on V8 they all disappear like you show in one of the other posts and i get the same cannot read tiff error. This is the website where i got my USGS map http://earthexplorer.usgs.gov/ and i have also upload one of the images to my dropbox so you have easier acess to it here is the link to that http://dl.dropbox.com/u/69504167/t553545_20100216.tif. Thanks for the info so far and any other would be great.
It seems that MicroStation V8 2004 really doesn't want to open the file t553545_20100216.tiff, though I'm not really sure why.
One workaround which seems to work fine on my computer is to convert the tiff file to an itiff file and use that instead. Note that this conversion has also the advantages of creating a more optimal representation of the t553545_20100216.tiff. which is not compressed and has no sub-resolution.
That did the trick, it is working just fine now that they are itiff instead of tiff files . I had no idea that V8I had a raster batch converter till now or that there was such a thing as itiff. We just started to the the upgrade in some computer to V8I so little by little I'm finding my way around. I really appreciated all you help.
THANKS A LOT,
I'm happy that your problem is solve!
For your information the iTIFF file format is a Bentley proprietary file format which is optimized for Raster Manager.
