Has anyone found an easy way to do this?
I need to convert them for use in SmartSketch.
If you use the MDL cellutil or cellutils - I cannot remember which it actually is, it plots cell libraries to a booklet page.
Then save the file to V7.
Finally, find the cellx MDL - which used to be included as an MDL Example with the V7 MDL tools. It will extract cells in a file to an attached cell library.
Make sure you keep your dimensions straight - 2D cells in 2D files, 3D cells in 3D files.

It's cellutil. The trouble is that it creates a grid and scales the cells up or down to fit in the individual cells, so that they are not to scale : (
It's not clear if the cell library started its life in the V7 format. If so, perhaps there's a backup for you to work with. This backup is automatically created when you attach a V7 cell library in a V8 design session. If available, you'll find it in the the folder being pointed to by MS_BACKUP (or MS_TMP if MS_BACKUP is not defined).
The Cellx MDL takes into account the scale factor of the cells once they are placed so when it writes them to a cell library, it "unscales" them so they retain the correct scale factor.
And there use to be a tool available - Cellwiz.ma that would let you scale cells to a scale factor - so you could set it to 1 and use it on all cells to resize them back to their default size.
But Cellx did not need that step.
The library is an existing V8 library that has grown over some considerable time.
We have a couple of users with SmartSketch who need the libraries. Unfortunately SmartSketch isn't that smart and needs V7 libraries..
