[Parametric Modelling] Table view for Variables

It would be really nice to have a view option for the variables window when creating parametric cells.

This way you could see more than one variable-set at a time and it would be much faster to edit the values.

What I imagine:

Parameter Name Value Type Display more properties ... ...
Diameter 1000 Distance Visible ... ...
Number 10 Integer not visible ... ...

I know that it is possible to export variables to excel and import them afterwards, but this is an unneccesary effort.

  • I agree just making sure you knew of the alternative while we wait for the Bentley machine to get around to it.  I've made some parametric cells with 400 variations and i would hate for somebody to be typing those 1 value at a time.

  • Thanks for your reply and sorry for my late answer, must have missed the notification.

I know that this workaround is possible, but in my opinion it is an uneccessary effort to do it that way.

If we always stay with using workarounds for problems, the software will develop really slowly.

And I see no reason why it has to be that clumsy in MS. Perhaps there is a reason for that, I do not know.

  • You can actually do this with excel, export to a .csv file and edit it there. The format of the .csv file is critical tho don't trying to get too fancy till you understand it.  Also if you work with a duel unit system like feet/inch it'll convert any distance values into dates ... the solution i've found works best is to copy the variation headers to a new excel document create your table (copy paste from a pdf catalog works well).  The values put into the .csv file need to be that of the main unit though so if your using ft/in and your table is filled out with inches divide all those values by 12 and then paste-values into the csv file.  Lastly import the .csv file and your done.
