Import Google KMZ files

The workaround used to be importing into Sketchup, that's going away ( the free version anyway). Additionally my import into Sketchup 2017 failed, leaving me to hunt down someone who could open a KMZ file ( Carlson ). KMZ isn't going away and people have been requesting this for the last 6 years. Please consider adding this functionality.

  • Thanks for the info Regie. All I'm really looking to do is to take a .KMZ file, could be from Google, could be from Carlson, or some other software and import that text file into MicroStation. Like XYZ text tool. I know the KMZ is an XML format, and if my VBA skills were a little better, I'd write something to import this myself.

  • Hi Tom,

Thanks for the idea suggestion. The issue here is that 64-bit version of Google Earth changed their API's so the with current sandbox in this version you restricted pulling data from Google Earth which will not allow for importing KMZ files going forward. This might still be still available with the old 32-bit version but I not sure if this is available for download any longer.

    Regards,
