Double-click in the "Cell Library" list of cell must be enhanced

Hi,

When you are using the "place cell" tool, you could use the button [...] to open the "Cell Library" dialog box. You can see all the cell in the list and if you double-click on one of them, the field "Active Cell" is filled whit the cell name in the tool settings dialog. That sounds ok.

Now, when you are using the tool "Pattern Area", "Replace Cell" or any other tool giving access to the "Cell Library" dialog through a [...] button, and you do the same thing (double-click on a cell name in the list), this is the "Active Cell" in the tool "Place Cell" which is filled (and this tool is started).

In my opinion, when the dialog "Cell Library" is opened by using a button [...], this dialog must received the information on which tool has started it to fill the right field accordingly.

See the video hereafter showing the use of "Replace Cell" than select [...] which open the dialog "Cell Library". After double-clicking a cell name in the list, the tool "Place Cell" has been started and the "Active Cell" is filled instead "Use Active Cell" in the "Replace Cell" tool.

Thanks,

Philippe

  • It is true...when using the TAB key from the name field you arrive...nowhere...!

Also, when you filled the name with a cell which is parametric :

    1. You can't modify it after validation. The field is grayed. Why ? No reason...
    2. If you enter the name without taking care of the letter case, this seems working, the cell is recognize as a parametric cell (and the field 'name' is grayed) BUT variations are not there and, finally, the tool is not working. You can't place the cell.

These points are always existing in MS CE Updt 13 in French.

  • I agree. By the way: if you show the "place active cell" dialog and try to go forward with the tab key you'll end up nowhere... just give it a go. I usually don't use the mouse for navigation within these dialog windows as using the keyboard is way faster. This is a defect.

  • Agree, I remember thinking that it would be nice that when using patterning or replace cell etc. the selection of the cell should be straightforward. But then something like the good old "Cell-Selector" type of interface would be also nice to be integrated into the selection functopm. Because it is a more visual way to overview a larger number of symbols/cells. The cell interface in general seems to be quite an oldtimer for that matter ...
