Future Consideration

Improved and consolidated Linestyle / Multiline Editor

1. More WYSIWYG.

  • Bigger better preview display.
    • Should reflect scale. 1:10? 1:500? What does it look like?
    • You should be able to orbit, zoom in/out.
    • There should be handles linked to the parameters settings.
    • The handles should be editablein the preview window.
    • Tooltips showing the user what Symbols or Base Stroke pattern is where
    • If the user clicks on a subcomponent or component, the corresponding element in the tree display should highlight, and vice versa.

  • The UI should be more tree based. Hard to tell what level or component you are working on. See above.
    • Base stroke pattern? Point symbols? Should not be hidden in another dailog to be opened and closed.
    • What is linked to what?

2. Integration with Multilines. Multilines parent Linestyles, there should be a consolidated Editor.

3. 3d elements: can be used as part of Linestyles. UI should reflect that. Preview window should support pan, zoom, orbit viewing operations.

  • Thanks, this is VERY VALUABLE! Here are my notes on this topic:

    UX:

Complete overhaul. Similar in general design to other DGNLIB based resources (TExt Styles, etc).

    How do we deliver today?

    • RSC files – Get rid of it
    • DGNLIB – Expand its capabilities
      • They get what’s current in their standards
      • Variable to see if local definition vs. library definition is different
      • Similar functionality to Text Styles, Dim Styles with Update from Library
      • Have additional functionality like levels to see which library it comes from
      • Have Search and Filters like levels
    • Seed File – Still support as it is a minor group of users

What type of element types do we want to support?

    • Parametric Solids
      • Make sure cuts, chamfers, fillets, etc. work properly
    • Surfaces
      • Trouble when make a hole or a cut, Booleans with surfaces
    • Meshes
    • General element types – line, circle, arc, b-splines, etc.
    • True Color support
    • Raster support
    • Rendering
      • Controlled using Open Elements toggle
      • Should be part of line style property that allows for overriding Open Elements toggle
      • Materials should work with all element types (esp. surfaces with cuts)
    • Item Types
      • Need to represent different pieces of geometry independently with Item Types
      • Should be part of the creation process of a CLS

    General Fixes

    1. New UX
    2. View Orientation when placing and editing (Change Attributes > Line Style) 3D line styles
      1. Has to be placed in Top view only
      2. Should have the ability like a Solid to use AccuDraw, Screen X, Y, Z and Drawing X, Y, Z at placement

    Wish List

    1. Curved Stroke Patterns
      1. Ability to have stroke follow a curve
      2. Provide a profile the extrudes on the fly
    2. More intelligence to de-conflict intersections
    3. Ability to Scale imported RSC line styles

  • Regarding Item 1.

When in Sheet Model would like linestyles 1-7 and Line weights to display based on drawing scale rather than pixel count.   This gives a better WYSIWYG of how dashed lines and line thickness will plot.  This could be implement as a user pref/config var.
