Updated for MicroStation V8i. Refer to the Steel wiki article for information regarding this utility. Please post any questions or comments regarding it in the Bentley Library Forum.
If you have any questions relating to these old free apps it would probably be better to post them to the MicroStation Community forum. The operations of this particular Steel app appears to be a little different due to changes in Parametric Solids. The following Blog helps to explain how the operation of creating Parametric Steel Sections can be performed in MicroStation CONNECT Edition.
I agree this utility serves a real purpose. If Bentley provided it in the first place and Copyrighted it why not continue to support it OR create the Parametric cells for their users so each and every one of us do not have to do it. I think the purpose is they want everyone to learn parametric design but most of us do not have hours/days/weeks/months of free time. One developer at Bentley could save the entire Bentley community thousands of hours if they just recompiled the original version or created the new parametric cells for us and loaded to the Utility downloads page...
Just my opinion.....
why is there not a steel utility for connect? I watched the video on parametric cells and that would be a time consuming option for placing a simple cross section, not a good option for replacing a utility that you already had as part of MicroStation for many years. I cant justify a program like pro steel. Not impressed that Bentley is not moving this one to connect edition.
Would love to have this in Connect
Hello, this is really a great tool, let's frameworks plus become obsolete for graphical issues - so you can design members really fast and by using feature-solid-extrusion, in a way editable.greatly appreciated, thanks.
Hello, is there a version of this utility for CONNECT Edition? I have not been able to find one searching the internet. I am on Update 5, if that matters. I know it is not a big huge deal, but it sure is convenient being able to pull up those steel sections on a whim when needed.
