ok now we understnd better what your trying to do..

take a look at setting up specific workspaces from the microstation manager dialog and avoid using windows explorer to load dgns.

Then in each project is a named worked space and on your server the workspace is defined in the microstation configuration and in that you define variables to point specific pentable to be used by default , printers , reference file paths, active files path, fonts linestyles etc.. its a big task to set up but you only need one first and it becaomes the template for others with only minor changes.

Talk to bentley help support on how to set this up or download and read alot on the tech support pages ..

I love doing it this way as some of our projects are 9 digit numbers with very long paths and I don't alway remember what name goes with what number weeks later but this way I dial up the project listing number and a name but it doesn't change the file folders its just the way ustn finds them .. and stuff thats project specific like client fonts pentables, colour tables etc now are deault to each specific project... say good by to windows explorerer..

Let me explain what Im doing and maybe there is a better way..

When I say better way I dont mean 3 party software

Im working on a fairly large project that is being segmented out into smaller projects. I've recently started to use the pen table to number my sheets in the title block. I simply put the file name without the extension on it where the page number goes. When I build my batch plot I just take the order from that and create find replace commands in the pen table. So each sub project has it own pen table that is the same as the rest with the exception of the page numbering info.

I use the pen table to control all the levels that are being used in the project as a whole. So if I make on change to the leveling in the pen table I have to go and make the same changes in ten other pen tables and can get rather time consuming.

I'd like to have a pen table for each project section that only contains the numbering data and a call statement that call up the master pen table... The master pen would be all the leveling info so all I need to do is change it once and that's it.

Re: Pen Tables calls

Joe, I believe not.

I'd say, just give it a go and tell us what you find.

It is possible to include a file in your printer driver. %include "myfile.inc" would add myfile.inc to the driver. That can contain certain parts of the driver. This way you don't have to enter paper sizes for each of your thirty printer drivers. I do not think it would allow you to load two seperate pentables, but it is worth a try.

Kind regards
