PLT Default Print-To Directory

I know that I can force Microstation to print to a certain filename / location with:

default_outFile /auto_overwrite = "C:\TEMP\$(basename(_DGNFILE)).pdf"

But what if I want the printer icon to open to a specific folder and then allow me to name the file?

Could I use the same : default_outFiel/auto_overwrite and just leave out the file name? Or does that screw things up?

  • Ok.

I tried putting in just the path but no filename... no good.

Does anyone else have any ideas?

I'm wanting to select the PLT file, hit print, and have a specific folder open up for saving my printfile.

It's all just lines and dots right?

  • One idea is to have the pltcfg always save the file to one single location and then open that pdf in your pdf reader which would allow you to save this file anywhere you wish with any filename.

  • True, but the PDF entry in my post was just so I had something in there.

We have 4 separate prints we do once a "page" is finished.

So once I have finished working on a page, I have to select 4 separate printer PLT files and print to both printer files (*.CGM, *.LRG, *.PDF, etc) as well as straight to printer for one of them. I'm trying to streamline this to a faster route, because for each of the "printer file" options I have to browse through layers of directories for each type. It's not a "big" deal, just a deal. I'm just trying to work smarter not harder.

  • If you would give some speciifics (directory structure) as to where the CGM. LRG PDF, & etc. files need to be stored in relation to the dgn file maybe someone can help. The output for nearly all of the plt & pltcfg file can be directed to a file. If the desired path can be derived from DGNDIR then it should be a simple task. I am not faniliar with CGM or LRG and I am not sure if the four printers could be comblined into one. I currently have a plt & a pltcfg printer which both creates a PDF & copies it to a shared printer. For instance we have a KIP windows driver (postcript capable) installed on each workstation. The KIP printer is shared (not published in the directory) as KIP on each workstation. To print a file to the KIP it is simple as copying the file to %COMPUTERNAME%\KIP. In the PDF-n-Print printer I have one COMSPEC line to copy the file to the printer. The Forgot how to send Plot directly to plotter thread has my plt settings (pltcfg is somilar).

  • Have you looked at setting MS_PLTDLG_FORCEOUTDIR and printing to that location letting the plt file set the extansion. you could even change\set the location in a userform in vb and then have the vb set the config for printing.
