Reference file dilemma.

So I'm using V8 2004.  I have a reference file attached to my master file.  I would like to be able to set the reference file to a 0 line weight and a specific color so that when I plot, the reference file does not stand out so much.  I've changed the Level Symbology for the reference file to all 0 lineweights and the color that I need to it plots to a dither pen setting.  I've changed the Adjust Color setting to the correct HSV for that specific color.  I've changed all the overrides for it as well.  Nothing seems to work.  Does anyone have any ideas about how to change all this fun stuff.

Again to clarify, I need the reference file to be set to a specific color and lineweight and to be able to be plotted dither (i.e. a screened color so it looks faded).

  • Hi,

in addition to Bear's notice about changing symbology during printing:

    • If element in your reference are created with bylevel symbology, you can change level symbology of your reference.
    • On your screen capture the siwtch "Print Adjusted Color" is switched off and in such case the reference is printed with the original symbology.

    With regards,

  • Another thing I found was in my pen table that there is a "as displayed" or "as written in the file" setting.  With my pen table set to "as written n the file", it ignored display overrides.  With that setting changed to "as displayed", it printed as desired with the overrides.

    Summary:

    1) check to make sure that the overrides are turned on in the view you are plotting from.

    2) check to make sure that overrides are turned on in the print settings box.

    3) make sure you don't have a pen table with "as written in the file"

  • You had the right idea originally but the wrong setting

put all your printing back to normal .

Now from the view attributes (Control B) make sure overrides is on

now open the level manager ( not level display manager)

where it says by level change it to overrides by the pull down.

now in the file tree of this manager  select the reference file  then in the attribute window of this manager use select all or Control A and  then in the colour column choose your  colour of choice to over ride all the ref file level colours  do the same for the line weights.

Now you drawing will look the way you wanted ... we do this in civil with the existing survey is using an override symbology of grey and  the proposed design work either black or colour ( but noto grey :) )
