Setting default print attributes from printer.plt

Not sure if this is possible.  What I need is a way to set some default print attributes from my plot driver so that the users don't have to keep setting them.  I have had a look at printer configuration files and managed to turn the attributes off this way, what I need to know is, is there a way to call the .ini file that is created in from my plotter plt file?  I really don't think the users will be happy having to keep opening a configuration file from the print dialog box so I would like to somehow automate this if possible.  I am using Microstation V8 in V7 workmode.

Thanks

  • You start with putting in the "Default Windows Printer Name" in the Base Properties. Then defining exactly the names of the formats of that particular windows printer into (a specific copy of) printer.plt. You can predefine pretty much there. (You may want users to each have their own <user>-printer.plt)

Yet when you Print through the windows system like in another Windows applications users may need to go into the windows printer settings for their specifc settings locally.

If you (also) use the more recent versions of MicroStation you may want to read Element as Printing Border

  • Hmmm OK, so it is possible to set defaults such as data fields on, and line weights off etc in a printer.plt file?  Please forgive my ignorance, I have only been using microstation for a few months and the admin side of it is all self taught so I do struggle to understand some things.  Could you please explain in a little more detail how exactly I go about setting data fields to on in a printer file then?  I'm a little confused.

    Thanks

  • This is partly kind of wysiwyg - e.g. obviously which levels are on - and partly depending on the local settings of the machines in the print dialog >Settings>Print Attributes. You can save these settings in a pset file if you want to distribute particular settings print dialog >File>Save Print Definition File... "Normaly"... if these local settings are not changed much.(?)

So far for the "Looks" - Then you select which printer you use. And this is where my first reply starts. You can define settings related to the specific printer there. Like From other Windows applications. I hope this rather clearifiying...

    Regards,Gerd

BTW. For PDF you go through MicroStation directly with pdf.pltcfg - not printer.pltcfg and another driver. This allows you to get a PDF with Levels and even a 3D PDF. Please check the help for more.
