We do work for the local DOT and they supply numerous RSC fonts that we must use. We are trying to migrate to XM and soon, V8i but many of the DOT fonts do not plot propperly from XM. I have not tried V8i.
These fonts were created from TTF's in earlier veersions and the DOT is not yet allowing the use of TTF in their files.
Is there any sollution out there?
I recall exporting fonts to cells years ago when certain TTF files did not export cleanly. I hope that I do not have to resort to that but if I do, I will need a new version of the font exporter.
I'm really hoping for a CFG variable! ;-)
I found about 6 or 8 more fonts within their font files that needed this treatment.
This is just the ticket. Along with MS_LEGACYDRAWORDER.
I wonder if there are any other things I need to keep my V8 running in XM?
Decided to edit this message and add these comments and observations:
You commented "This fonts display poorly in 08.11.05.17 and 08.11.07.115; I will file a TR against 08.11.07 for the issue."
I agree, entire characters fail to dispsplay in these versions. We can hope that by the time the DOT has gone to V8i, they will allow the use of the native TTF's instead of the imported RSC versions.

Not quite sure I understand what you mean... MicroStation V8 2004 Edition, MicroStation V8 XM Edition, and MicroStation V8i are all MicroStation V8. That said, each new release includes many things that are "new and improved". In some instances, especially when new technologies are utilized and implemented, some functionality in one release is superseded in subsequent releases -- the intent there is to make functionality, processes, workflows, etc. better going forward and not just for the sake of doing it. At the same time, we try our best to minimize changes in workflows as much as possible -- especially when the benefit of such advancements far outweighs any potential drawbacks.
I guess I needed to say V8 Workspace working in XM.
You guys are enhancing V8 so fast that before we have had a chance to digest the use of this new feature, there are three or four more to consider.(Actually, it sometimes feels like twenty or thirty new things...)
But the big clients tend to move slowly, so while we want to work in XM or V8i, we have to continue to deliver files that are acceptable to the client. That means we cannot add things like sheet layouts, alternative fonts and linestyles. So when a new version cannot plot files properly from a previous version, its a problem.
Phil, I'm a big supporter of Bentley and all they do, but sometimes, I feel like the guy standing on the corner waiting for the bus while a stretch limo with smoked windows drives by and all I can do is imagine what it must be like to be in that limo.
