Line weight problems between V8 and XM

Currently I am the only technician in my group who has the XM edition and I'm having problems printing drawings with the same line weights as the V8 users. We have the same plot tables loaded and same line weights used, but when I plot out the drawings through XM the line weights are never the same as the V8 drawings. We have looked at the pen strokes and they match, but don't know where else the problem might be coming from. Looking for any solutions. Thanks.

  • My last post is in rference to custom linestyles, however if you are speaking about the default line styles then that is controlled in the plot configuration file.

Verify that the following statements in your plot configuration file are the same.  If you use the same plot configuration file then the default line styles will plot out the same.

See the following excerpts from my plot config file:

;  The style records define how the design file line codes (styles)
;  are to be plotted.  Values are in plotter units (resolutions).
;  Values determine pen down/up movements, where (10,28) for a dot
;  pattern leaves the pen down for 10 units and up for 28 units.  The
;  /nohardware switch causes software stroking with these values.
; This example has the /nohardware option commented
; out, so the printer will draw the styles.

    style(1)=(18, 18)                  ;/nohardware     ;style = dot
    style(2)=(37, 37)                  ;/nohardware     ;style = med dash
    style(3)=(75, 75)                  ;/nohardware     ;style = long dash
    style(4)=(75, 37, 18, 37)          ;/nohardware     ;style = dot-dash
    style(5)=(27, 27)                  ;/nohardware     ;style = short dash
    style(6)=(75, 37, 18, 37, 18, 37)  ;/nohardware     ;style = dash-dot-dot
    style(7)=(75, 27, 32, 27)          ;/nohardware     ;style = long dash - short dash

  • you need to set your symbology configuration varible to point to the same linestyle.rsc file in both applications V8.5 and V8.9.

     See the attached user config.jpg

  • check the following:

    1. level overrides and the line weights in the print attributes dialog
    2. verify is you are using a pen table.
    3. user configuration varibles for printing between the applications, it's possible that one of these configurtion variable is pointing to a pen table

Lastly post your plot configuration file and the dgn file that you are using and I will look at it.

  • That hasn't happened to me (atleast yet, maybe). I was wondering, since I have both as well, if you know how to import all the line types from XM to V8 (XM doesn't plot for some reason, so I plot from V8 but it doesn't have any line types loaded like in XM). Thx.
