I am looking for better ways to create large small-scale PDFs that can be shared amongst the project team members.
I am starting out using the pdf.pltcfg - delivered with MicroStation V8-XM - and maintaining the default 600 dpi resolution.
We have corridor-type projects where the project managers want to review the current-status - in PDF format - of the entire 3-mile long project. We are able to create a PDF by manipulating the sheet size - to a maximum of 200 inches x 200 inches. This sheet size limitation (which I don't know if it is an Adobe limitation of the PDF driver limitation) allows up to create this PDF at approx. 1" = 1000' scale. At this scale the image looks fine on the screen, but as you zoom in to check out different areas of the project, everything starts to look very blotchy and heavy - and illegible.
We would like to be able to create the PDF at 1" = 100' or even 1" = 50' scale..... which would be impossible for printing (on most all large format plotters) - but would allow the proper level of detail for zooming in and viewing specific areas of the project.
I have not experimented too much. I just figured I would ask this group for ideas.

My experience with the plotter & pdf is maximum length is 5 m ( approx 200 inches long ) and your 3miles=4.8km so based on the metric you should be able to create a custom plot sheet 5m : 5000m = 1:1000 max but width is the tricky part max paper physical is or real 42" or .82m or 1000x = 4200" or 820m so draw piece of paper 42"x200" and scale it up 1000 times and then use this as your plot boundary but set you custom paper size to 42x200" or in metric 0.842x5000m so for the pdf the same principle applies for the 1:500 just scale up the boundry 500x's and still use the same custom plot sixe
