Here is what I am looking to do, maybe I don't need a design script and there is a better way of doing it.
I have existing elements on their respective levels in my profile. It covers some key words and some syntax. I know no more than this, so I don't know if it covers the most advanced features of the language. (I'm just now starting to look into it for my own purposes, which led me to find this thread.)

RE: Design Scripts

I'm sorry but if your client wants you to change the elements to weight 1 not just printing so why not

just use batch processor to make everything weight 1 in all your files,

You said"" I have existing elements on their respective levels in my profile. Right now they are on a 0 weight and "grey-scale" color. Our client might want this changed to non-grey-scale and a weight 1 down the road."

So why are you printing grey scale your client said non grey scale what does that mean ? colour or B&W or WYSIWYG?

While were here

Go and make a new dgnlib file ( call it client name) with all your level names predefined and by level set to wt 1

open a new seed file named it your clients name and import/ attach the levels from the dgnlib file. will now take care of all future works...

RE: Design Scripts

Can you send me your dgn and pen table?

RE: Design Scripts

No that didn't work. Besides the text on the right, it seems to just be the arrowhead that isn't converting over to grey-scale. I tried printing a few other pages as well to the same effect. I do not know if this makes a difference, but we use a cell "ARRHD" to determine our Arrow Terminator in our Dimension styles.

Under Pen Table Options --> Complex/Compound Element Options, I have everything checked. I have also tried both Element symbology comparison modes.

In the main window of Element Selection Criteria under Class: Originally I just had Primary highlighted, I now have everything highlighted, still no effect. I have all Types highlighted as well.

RE: Design Scripts

In the pen table dialog, look in the lower left. There is a Pen Table Options. Try enabling Explode dimensions.

RE: Design Scripts

Thanks Dawn! That worked for the most part. See Attached, everything I wanted came in at grey scale. For some reason, some of the leaders/leader heads did not make the transition even though they are on the correct level. Same with the text on the right side. I just grabbed all existing levels for the profile reference and changed the output color to 236.

RE: Design Scripts

Using a MicroStation pen table will probably be the easiest method for you not being familiar with either. In the Print dialog, select Resymbolization - New Pen Table. Enter a name.tbl and select Save. This will open the new pen table in the Modify Pen Table dialog. A new section will be automatically added. You can add other sections under the Edit menu. There are two tabs on the right. In the Element Selection Criteria, select the attributes you want to test on: Color ( enter 232-236), Level (select the Level item and a list of levels will be presented, pick the appropriate ones), Weight (enter 0). On the Element Output Actions tab, check mark the color and take the default By Index 0, check mark Weight and select 1 from the options. Save the pen table and attach at the bottom of the Print dialog or in Print Organizer.

There is detailed information regarding Pen Tables in the MicroStation online help (Help - Contents) under Working with Complete Designs - Printing - Print Resymbolization and Pen Tables.

Give it a try and let me know if you have any questions or problems.

RE: Design Scripts

What attributes separate these elements from all others beside weight=0 and color?

Level name, style. They are elements just drawn in the profile using regular v8i s3. They are in a file being referenced in.

What index is the grey-scale color?

Colors 232-236 plot various degrees of grayscale/half-tones.

PEN(1)=(0-255)/RGB=( 0, 0, 0) ;BLACK

PEN(2)=(232) /RGB=(245,245,245)

PEN(3)=(233) /RGB=(215,215,215)

PEN(4)=(236) /RGB=(186,186,186)

PEN(5)=(235) /RGB=(156,156,156)

PEN(6)=(234) /RGB=(127,127,127)

We use varying .plt(s) currently. This is the setting set up on all of them. I have yet to convert them to .pltcfg yet.

Also, do you want to test on all files (master and reference) or specific levels?

I think for my needs for this and in the future, I would like to do it for specific levels. I have a level.dgnlib that we use to standardize what levels our jobs get. So if I can easily go to a job and have a certain "script" I can insert for how each different client likes to see the certain levels. That would be really useful.

Thank you for the quick reply.

RE: Design Scripts

Yes, there is. You can use either a design script or a pen table to test on these elements and then specify the output weight/color at print time. What attributes separate these elements from all others beside weight=0 and color? What index is the grey-scale color? Also, do you want to test on all files (master and reference) or specific levels?
