v8i - Can I use multiple pltcfgs in the same pset if they come from different workspaces?

Can I use multiple pltcfg files in the same pset?

We have 2 different pcf files (workspaces? I think that's the same thing) for one job and would like to combine our files into one pset for outputting the final pdf. But right now, when I am in one workspace, I can't access the pltcfgs for the other so can't get correct linestyles or find the right plot shapes.

If it makes any difference to the problem, the dgn files and pset files are in Projectwise. The dgnlibs, pltcfgs, pcfs, etc. reside on a local server which is not in Projectwise.

Thanks,

  • I believe this topic has been covered previously. I think that you can only use 1 .pltcfg file per .pset and although you can define a workspace in each print definition I don't think it works the way you would think. I believe the best practice is to open PO in the intended workspace and run your .pset for that job. If you are going to plot something from a different workspace you should close PO, open PO in the new workspace and then plot.

  • Thanks for the reply. I suspected as much. I found some questions somewhat similar when I searched but they seemed to be several years old or not really the same thing. I probably just wasn't using good enough search terms.

I agree with you as to the best practice in this situation. We have a highway group and a structures group. The highway group is wanting to force the structures group to abandon any custom linestyles, etc. and work in their workspace so that they can print a combined pdf from one PO without having to insert pdfs from one set into another after generating them with different POs. The highway group uses a workspace straight from a client and it is not sufficient to generate structures sheets with the quality we want. I am trying to see if there is a way to save our custom linestyles. :)
  • The highway group should be able to add the structures line style library to their workspace search path. This way the line styles will be found and displayed properly and no need for separate workspaces.
