Is it possible to print shaded 3d models using the vector option (not rasterized)? SS4

I know this was a problem in the past, I am hoping Bentley solved this problem. ....

Basically, I am trying to reference saved views from my 3d model and combine them with 2d drawings on the same sheet. When I go to print, I am forced into

the rasterized option. I am not crazy about the results.  I would like the crisp linework of vector drawings and simple shading to add dimension.

I am not trying to print materials and textures, just shades of colors and grays.

Thanks

  • If by shading you mean transparent shapes or other elements, I don't know how to print them without using the Rasterized option. To get the vector elements to look good, open your printer driver configuration file and under the Advanced section, there is a setting for "Rasterized Quality Factor". Setting this to 100 should make everything look normal. However, this makes for slow plotting (or large pdf files).
  • Thanks for your feedback John,

The problem with the rasterized option is that it basically turns your entire sheet into an image file, even if half the elements are simple line drawings.

I mainly am looking to create 'rendered' elevations. I know that 2d drawings can be created from 3d drawings and the results look good. Is it possible to create a 2d drawing that keeps the shaded info? Or, is it possible to export the shaded info as a separate file that would allow me to composite the 'shaded' file and the '2d vector' file into one drawing?

I know It is possible to add shades of colors, transparencies, and gradients using the 'fill-type' tool to vector drawings, so it seems possible- I am just looking for a creative workflow that gets me the desired results.

    Thanks!
