Print Organizer "No elements matching . . . " Error

I am having issues with just a certain number of sheets not being added to a PSET when using Print Organizer in Microstation V8i. I select all of the files and then manually specify their options as I typically do and it adds the first several files but will add the additional ones. When I enter one of the trouble dgn files and try to add it to a PSET by itself using the same manual settings it still will not add but gives the same "No elements matching the automatic search criteria were found" error. I have researched this error and have found little help. The only way I have been able to add the trouble files to a pset is to create a new drawing using the same user/preference and then reference the trouble dgn into the new drawing, which allows for the creation of the pset for this new file. I have also merged the reference to see if that makes a difference and it still creates the pset. I have also ran loaded and ran verifydgn on a couple of these trouble files but that did not seem to help. Any ideas on what else may be causing the problem with just these files?

Thanks!

  • I found this article while searching for the answer to the same issue.  I know this article is old, but I figured I would post my solution here anyway in case someone else came across the article the same way I did.

I had some files that a PSET would find and process correctly, and then some sheets that it would try to add to the PSET, but would tell me that "No elements matching the automatic search criteria were found."  I am not sure if you will have the same results, but here is what I figured out was the problem with my files:

In our work flow, each DGN file contains one SHEET MODEL along with one or more DESIGN MODELS.  All of our line work is contained in the DESIGN MODEL(S) and/or External Reference files attached to the DESIGN MODEL(S).  Those DESIGN MODELS are then referenced into the SHEET MODEL of the same DGN file, and then all the Annotation is added to create the production sheet.  We also attach the BORDER FILE (which has the desired PRINT SHAPE(S) in it for the PSET) as an External Reference to the SHEET MODEL.

What I figured out in my instance is that PRINT ORGANIZER looks at the SHEET MODEL of the file that you are adding into the PSET for the PRINT SHAPE (or other definable criteria) that it is searching for to know what to print.  All the files that couldn't be processed by PRINT ORGANIZER were created by a fairly inexperienced CAD Technician.  they had inadvertently attached the SHEET BORDER reference to one of the DESIGN MODELS rather than the SHEET MODEL that was in the DGN SEED FILE by default.  So when PRINT ORGANIZER was trying to process the file, it was looking at the SHEET MODEL in the file (which was empty) and couldn't find the PRINT SHAPE, thus giving me the error "No elements matching the automatic search criteria were found."  Once we changed the DESIGN MODELS to SHEET MODELS under the MODEL PROPERTIES we were able to add all those files into the PSET and they all printed correctly!

I hope this helps someone else!
