Printing issues with solids

I have no control over how my solids look when plotted. After quite a bit of struggling I found the rasterize-option but I'm having a hard time believing that's as good as it gets. See for example the screen shots below. The first one is from sheet view and the second from the pdf (same happens on paper). This is the top view of a 3D model - display style filled hidden line. Isn't there a setting somewhere that allows me to plot what's on the sheet? I'm using V8i (SELECTseries 3). All help greatly appreciated.

  • In order to give you a good answer, we would need the software (Plane MicroStation?) and version of the software, along with a sample, showing the problem. Also what you are using to plot (?Plt/PltCfg). You can attach using the Insert when you reply. Right now we can't answer. Too many questions. Have you tried one of the default Bentley PlotConfigs (i.e. PDF.PltCfg).

  • It would seem that you have a pen table that is switching your fill to print black or there are color modifications within the plot driver itself. What plot driver are you using? An old .plt or the newer .pltcfg? It could also have something to do with a display style. What if you have your display style set to just Wireframe? Do you get the same result?

  • Since you are using filled hidden lines you need to use rasterized in order to print the fills. Note that MicroStation can print regular hidden line in non-rasterized mode.

  • I´m using plain MicroStation v8.11.9.578 and pdf.pltcfg

My original issue was that no matter what display style I used I got a weird wire-frame plot with all kinds of issues which is why I ended up rasterizing.

When I made a sample file everything printed just fine without rasterizing (I don't really need it to be filled - hidden lines is fine). I tried a few things and it seems the issue arises when I reference the 3D model in a 2D design file. That's unfortunately what I need the 3D model for - to put it in different settings (in a 2D file) from different angles - which works beautifully until it comes to plotting. (Well...on second though...I don't seem to have any control over the display style of the reference either). So I've made a sample which I think demonstrates the issues, but I can't insert it. Just get "error" when trying to upload the dgn-file.

  • Ooops...put the same pdf twice. So Not OK.pdf is a printout of a sheet that references the 2D model-space which again references the 3d model (like I have to do in the work I'm doing) Prints OK.pdf references the 3d model directly (as is evident in the dgn-file I can't upload.) PDF
