Microstation 08.11.07
What is the different between .PLTCFG and .PLT?
I have been having problem plotting files in png, wmf, tiff, formats "Printer driver configuration file..... is not valid" "Raster compression value can not be 8, or 18, or 28 depending on print output format.
They do the same thing, the biggest difference is that one can be edited in Notepad (.plt) and the other (.pltcfg) is in XML format for which Bentley provides a UI to modify. The .plt is subject to operator errors and to syntax issues. The .pltcfg is much user friendly to modify. The Help file provides information for what the records are in .plt and the equivalent property in a .pltcfg. Bentley Bentley also provides for you to convert your .plt to .pltcfg. See the following Wiki page - https://communities.bentley.com/products/microstation/microstation_printing/w/wiki/9370/using-microstation-plot-driver-to-create-and-convert-printer-driver-configuration-files
In V8i, the png.plt became obsolete. The wmf.plt became part of printer.pltcfg and the tiff.plt was rewritten in the last version of MicroStation XM now called tiff.pltcfg. The new TIFFDRIVER generates output one scanline at a time, rather than storing the entire plot in memory as LORIP did.
Could not find 'riff.pltcfg', but found 'tiff.pltcfg'. Maybe it is one of the same [just a typo]. It works. So, are you recommending me to replace my old '.plt' with '.pltcfg'? I have been using '.plt' for years. Never pay any attention to it.
Thanks.
Thanks for pointing out the typo. I would suggest you move to using .pltcfg files instead of .plt. Bentley will continue to support both formats but the .plt format files will not be delivered.
