I can see that this problem has really got people thinking! To fill you in on the latest developments, I have changed the workflow as it didn't work well for me but the problem of not being able to print properly remains. In fact, I can't print at all now as Descartes hangs and won't allow any printing at all, either to plotter or pdf,

I have had to revise the workflow for two reasons; point cloud clips do not follow a point cloud from one model to another and clipping a point cloud to create Saved Views does not work where you are creating orthographic (elevation, plan and end view) drawings of the same point cloud. It's ok when the subject is in the open-air but indoors (as this is) you need to clip out walls, floors, ceilings, etc. for each view.

What I have had to do was create separate models for each orthographic view and pull them into the sheet model. Revised workflow as follows;

1. In MAIN design model create 3D vector content. Attach point cloud for design/review purposes then detach when finished so that only vector data remains.

2. Create separate design models for the Elevation view. Attach the main design model as a reference and attach the point cloud to the model and clip as required for the specific view. Annotate and dimension as required. Create a Saved View for the view and label accordingly, e.g. Elevation. Repeat for each each of the required views.

3. Reference each design model into the sheet model (Interactive) and select the and arrange and annotate accordingly.

At this point everything looks great but when I try to print it Descartes hangs/crashes. Whether I print to pdf or a plotter I get the same result every time; it hangs on the same raster tile each time. This is making all the time and effort spent on scanning the site, processing the point cloud and producing the 3D design model look like a waste! Does anybody else do similar work? I'd love to hear how you approach this. The screenshot below shows the sheet model and the printing set-up, including the rasterising progress (crashed!). I have an I-model as well if anyone wants to have a look.

Thanks in advance,

Paul
