I have made various cut slices of my 3D model and have placed them onto my sheets. For some reason when I printed these pdf's
the "on-section" line work appears but the off-section line prints very light/faded. This also happens with simple plan and elevation views.
Any thoughts or ideas as to why?

the lines that define the boundaries of the cut are fine,
it's the secondary lines which don't define the actual cut plane. They seem to be faded/very light lines.
Can you send us an example?
