Odd Print Organizer Behavior

Hi, mstn v8I SS4 Win7

I use Print Organizer all the time, usually successfully. On  typical job we use Inroads to import survey data. Everything is "mapped" according to the point code. When in Inroads, with the survey file open, there are symbols and such that appear, but aren't really there - you can't select them - based on what codes were imported. For example a manhole might appear as an unselectable manhole symbol. When you close the point file they go away.

When the point file is on our survey control points are represented by a triangle and what appears as text listing Northing, Easting & Elevation.

On to today's dilemma. I typically use a sheet model drawing to create plotted sheets from, referencing in the "plan" dgn, then use PO. Today, on (at first) just two of the five total sheets I am seeing the control points show up as if the point file was open in Inroads with the triangle and text. But, Inroads last had the point file open yesterday, and Inroads is not running at all when I try to plot sheets.

In the sheet drawing and every reference drawing every level's display is set to ON and nothing is frozen. Furthermore, the levels that control point stuff is mapped to appear on are not bold, i.e., there is nothing on them - in ANY of the sheet or referenced files. In none of these files are control symbol or text visible. It just isn't there.

I am plotting to a pdf using the Bentley driver.

If I plot to pdf using the Bentley driver, and using File>Print those two sheets plot correctly.

One of the sheets started behaving normally after I played with the PO properties for that sheet - namely I unchecked data fields in the Display tab thinking it retains an association to the point file (I'm desperate, I'll try anything), and hitting the Update from design file button on the Advanced tab. I tried poking at the other faulty sheet in a similar way but it still shows control points as described above.

I tried recreating the PO .pset file - no change.

It's like it is remembering that once I had the point file open and shows control points (and only control points, no manholes or other features) as if the point file was open, but only when I plot, and only when I plot using PO.

I can workaround this - plot the bad sheets separately and replace those sheets in the final pdf. Or I can have it not plot the E_Survey* levels. But i like solutions, not workarounds.

Any advice on how to "purge" the Inroads point file control point symbology from the dgn and/or pset?

  • I've had issues (oh, the issues!) with shared cells in connect.

Connect r17 10.17.2.61 self-employed-Unpaid Beta tester for Bentley

  • Have you Compressed the file recently? There could be some data bits hanging around that are getting picked up by PO. It sounds strange, but I've seen some strange things in my years.

Try Compressing first, with Print Organizer closed. Compress, save settings, then see how it prints. If that doesn't do it...sometimes, the only "solution" is a workaround. If you want the level not to plot, you can always set the Plot property of the level to off.

  • David,

If you open the dgn file, in plain MicroStation (no InRoads running) do you see the points? We had a problem where InRoads survey was leaving it's temp points\graphics  in the file. Everything looked fine as long as we had InRoads Survey running, but when the file was opened on a PC w\o InRoads the points would show up. This was a known problem and Bentley even has a program that would delete all the extra points\graphics. Because PO is running MicroStation in the background if it's not also loading InRoads Survey it's possible these points might display. This was the SS2 version of InRoads Survey
