Slow printing of PSET in ProjectWise

My company has been working with ProjectWise for a couple of years now. We were previously logging into another firms datasource to work on projects. About 1 year ago we purchased ProjectWise and we have one project in our datasource. One thing that was a problem working on the other firms datasource was slow processing of a .pset with Print Organizer. We are still seeing this issue with our own datasource.

The problem we are experiencing is that most functionality of PO is slow. It does not matter if you are adding files to the .pset, trying to preview the plots, stepping through the preview of a set or just trying to simply plot the set it is extremely slow.

I have searched the forums and found MS_PLT_PWWORKSPACE_OPTIMIZATION and set it to a value of 2 is a suggested setting. I have this variable set for our Microstation SS4/Power InRoads v8i SS2 & Microstaion CONNECT software. It makes no difference. I've also test the setting in PO preferences to "Open design files in read-only mode". Having that checked on makes a noticeable difference, but I've always had that checked on. It is still extremely slow.

colleague performed a simple test. He was using ORD for a set of cross sections. He created the cross sections and had them referenced into Sheet models. There were a total of 8 sheet models. My colleague created a new .pest and added the 8 sheet models to the set which took 8 1/2 minutes. it took another 7 minutes to actually print the sheets to a pdf.

I have had this same experience on other jobs that were hosted on the other firms datasource. I had some .psets that contained an entire roadway plan set of approximately 200 sheets. These sheets were a ll design models rather than sheet models & were mixed types between roadway plans, typical sections, details, profiles, etc. (No cross sections in those sets). This .pset files averaged 1 hr to print to pdf or directly to a printer. For the most part a lot of users were not even able to open the .pset. Even re-creating the .pset did not solve that issue.

In all cases, whether trying to preview a single drawing or a group of drawings took 2-3 minutes for the first preview to be visible and stepping through a set could take 30 seconds for the next file to preview. Additionally, right-clicking on a single print definition and selecting Properties it takes 2-3 minutes for the file to be visible in the preview window. If you chose to disable the preview before the file is visible there is a dialog stating that the processing  engine is stopping and will take another 2-3 minutes before you are able to make any other changes.

As the set is in the process of creating the pdf or output directly to a printer each file opens, which can take some time where it needs to check the current file in and then re-download all of the information for the next file.

There does not seem to be any answer for this problem. Does anyone have a solution for this? The process is extremely cumbersome!
