When printing with Bentley HP RTL driver i get the wrong colors

Hello,

I just started a new project where i have a company logo that i inserted with the Raster manager and when printing whit the bentley HP RTL driver the logo comes out Gray instead of Blue.

When i use the windows driver and them select the same plotter the color come out correctly.

How can i also find the color configurations like the sRGB settings in the Bentley HP RTL driver?

Thank you!

  • Notes from the driver file-

This is the generic Bentley printer driver used to create HP RTL files. This driver is provided primarily for legacy purposes. The Bentley Windows printer driver in conjunction with an appropriate Windows printer driver is recommended for HP RTL output.

The most significant advantage of this driver over the Windows printer driver is easier manual control over paper size definitions. A major disadvantage is that all OLE objects must be rasterized when printed. Many manufacturer-specific plotter features are also unavailable when using this generic driver.

  • Thank you for the reply.

Is there a way to predefine the paper sizes so i only have the ones i need available?  Because i have a list of maybe 20 or 30 paper sizes and not the ISO ones i need.

  • Hi Michel,

As this question is moving away from the original topic, next time, please consider to create a separate post.

Assuming you are talking about the paper sizes in the printer driver: when you have selected the pdf.pltcfg in the Print dialog, in that same dialog pick: File>Edit Printer Driver Configuration.

In the dialog that opens, go to the tab: Paper Sizes and remove the sizes that you do not need. Note that the size that is at the top of the list, will be presented as the 'default' size when you select that printer driver. So if you mostly want to print to ISO A1 size, move that size to the top of the list.

Once you have made your changes, pick File>Save as to save the changes to a new .pltcfg file (Like: pdf_ISO_A1.pltcfg) and in a location where you keep your other standards for your MicroStation (or other Bentley product) work. That way, it will not be overwritten/removed when your product is updated/reinstalled.

Extending the variable: MS_PLTCFG_PATH with the location of that pdf_ISO_A1.pltcfg, will make help to easily find the file in MicroStation.

MS_PLTCFG_PATH  specifies the search path for printer driver configuration (.pltcfg or .plt) files.  This path is also used to locate related files such as PostScript prolog files.

Next to the path, you can also set the variable: MS_PLTR and point it to: pdf_ISO_A1.pltcfg

In addition, you can consider to set:
    MS_DEFAULT_PLTCFG_FILE
That variable will automatically set to a printer driver configuration filename, that file (instead of the most recently used one) is selected when you open the Print dialog box. The value of this variable may be either a .pltcfg or .plt file.

In case you were talking about 'paper' sizes in MicroStation, you may want to look at the file: sheetsizes.def, make a copy of that file, edit it and save it in the location of your standards.
MicroStation finds that file via the variable: MS_CUSTOMSHEETSIZEDEF

Note that there is also a file called Scales.def (MS_CUSTOMSCALEDEF) to set your preferred drawing scales and there is Units.def (MS_CUSTOMUNITDEF) to set your preferred units.

  • Std. practice- Make a copy of printer.pltcfg and edit it to suit your needs for various work flows. If you edit from Microstation print dialogue, you will get an easy to use, organized presentation to edit.

  • Thank you all for your time. I and am using the windows driver to solve the issue, it is the easiest and fastest way.

  • The windows driver doesn't really let you make separate styles for different prints like layered pdfs, lowres rasterpdfs when your pdfs have too much data with images making the pdfs too big, text searchable pdfs etc.. even 3d pdfs very cool...

but if it floats your boat just use what your using...

    BTW

I have set mine up to have the default print and pltcfg to my  most used printer and it pops with all my settings automated just by  control p or invoke the print function .. and in model space it auto fits the view extent and places my fence automatically and chooses my  default paper size, default printer and pentable settings all in one step > Print!.. I could even change it to execute so it prints straight away but that's not always advisable for odd times the scale is wrong or my masters choose to temporarily use a different paper size one off...

Once you set all this up yes takes time but you only do it once and then its the fastest way to print stuff  even for batch prints...
