How to troubleshoot when Raster Images or Filled shapes are not printing as they appear in a Drawing?

Good afternoon everyone

Where can one start to troubleshoot printing issues within Microstation?

I have attached three images bellow to show the predicament:

1. Black and White pdf

2. Color pdf

3. View of Microstation drawing and how it should be printing.

1.B & W PDF Sample

2.Color PDF Sample

3.

Any advise to troubleshoot this issue is greatly appreciated.

Thank you and wish you a great day

  • I'm using v8i ss4

the notes that are giving you grief,  are they text style background fills, did you use colour 255 BG as the colour for the fill?

If the boxes are manually done is the FILL set to colour 255 BG which should print  blank ie the absences of ink ie white paper on white paper

The white text on top of the fills is it colour 0, which will print black on a white background.. but on screen will look LIKE 3  white text on black but print should be same as  item 2 .. left hand drg..

Now you say item 1 is B&W but I see colour photo so not right...

    3  things to consider

1 are you using  out of the box pdf.pltcfg  or customised

2 are you using a pentable to resymbolise output?

3 what are your colour table settings , is it original?  has it been modified ?, is it the same in you seed files? is RGB and not true colour

my colour table is client customised but color 0 = 0,0,0 rgb and colour 255 is BG = 255,255,255 rgb  and this is white on white on pdfs in sheet model and  no ink used or no print in this polygon

here is my screen shot  I modified the pdf driver to use levels and set the dpi I prefer and added sheet sizes and roll plot sizes and changed the zip compression to JPG instead as I sue a lot of imagery... but these don't change the colour outputs

as screen shot  left is the print preview right is the actual screen FYI the print preview is what it prints like in this case in my pdf

the only other time I have had the issues you have is if the drawing is DWG or copied from ACAD colour 0 and BG get screwed up and done in sheet model

  • Thank you lots

Just when I thought Microstation was complicated, you have pointed me to a part I had no clue about and I am trying to figure out where to begin.

Thank you again for all your help, and hope one day I can return the favor to another user.

    Wish you a great day

you click  where it say to PM me and I can provide you with a very good primer on MicroStation for free in pdf... I think I may have posted this message before to you in another  post but no matter its called V8 survivors guide by the Late Keith Little , he wrote some really great stuff over the years for microstation, the book is a bit old now but still good for most things V8i... and gives a really good understanding of models, filters, levels xrefs etc just not Print organiser...
