Printing custom line styles with Print Organizer

We utilize custom line styles in our workspace i.e. a "w" inserted in a line for waterline. When we print this sheet using the standard print option and our pdf plt driver, it shows up correctly. I am new to Print Organizer so hang in there with me. I have put our pdf plt driver as the Printer driver configuration file. I don't know if this is correct or not. The bottom line is I am not able to see our custom line style when I use the Print Organizer. Any help would be most appreciated.

  • Are you running ustation.exe with customized command-line arguments, or using another technique to run MicroStation in a non-standard manner?

Are you running ustation.exe with customized command-line arguments, or using another technique to run MicroStation in a non-standard manner?
Can you explain this in further detail? In customized do you mean a customized project config etc? We are running custom configs.
  • You should not have to specify the workspace names in the print style, and it is better off that you don't.  That's an advanced feature that is supposed to allow printing designs using a different workspace than the one loaded in the current MicroStation session.  If the print definition workspaces are blank in Print Organizer, the designs will be printed using the current workspace, which is likely what you want.

If ustation.exe is not being invoked with any command-line arguments, then you may fall into one of the custom configuration situations where designs do not display correctly in read-only mode.  Is this the case?  You can test it easily enough by opening your design in read-only mode and seeing the symbology is correct.  If that's the problem, then you can change the Print Organizer preferences to load the design files in read-write mode.  The default is read-only.

  • Hello Andrew, I have the same problems printing custom linestyles with the Print Organizer. I am starting Microstation v8i with the next keyin/shortcut: "C:\Program Files\Bentley\MicroStation V8i\MicroStation\ustation.exe" -wcC:\Cadset\Bentley\v8i\Config\brm-v8i-local.cfg -wuSTE-local I did also change the Print Organizer preference to read-write, that didn't help too. What can I do to solve the problem?
  • Print Organizer does not currently support ustation.exe command-line workspace customization, although a priority build might be available that adds that capability via a configuration variable.  Bentley Support can offer more information on that.  Refer to CR 262657.

In the commercial release, you would need to remove the command-line options and launch ustation.exe normally (which is how Print Organizer launches its background MicroStation process).  You could modify the standard mslocal.cfg to use your customized settings.

  • I did remove the command-line options and modified the standard mslocal.cfg, now I can see the custom linestyles. Thank you very much.
  • Glad to hear that.  We will have support for that type of customization in the next SELECT update.

  • You can still run the Batch Print cmd,  mdl load batchplt.

You can put Batch Print cmd in a key-in, or as a modification to "File" as a site/network task dgnlib pointed to by MS_GUIDGNLIBLIST.

  • The Batch Print application files still exist in MicroStation V8i, but are unsupported.  There is no guarantee they will be delivered indefinitely (they almost certainly won't be).

  • Andrew, has there been any progress in fixing these issues,

We would like to move forward with V8i, but until these issues are resolved we will most likely have to shelf V8i.

  • It's not clear what issues you are referring to.

GEOPak has addressed their issues running in non-graphics mode.  For more information on that, you should talk to GeoPAK support.

Print Organizer will support custom ustation.exe command-line arguments in the upcoming SELECT release.

  • Andrew,

    All of the issues,

I am currently dealing with plotting issues in XM, these issues also involve custom linestyles, and fonts that do not plot or display correctly. I have contacted support with these issues and I was told that they would be addressed in V8i.  These issues have sometimes caused me to fall back to V8 in order to plot a project correctly.

Reading this thread, It appears that we have even more issues with Print Organizer because it is not using our Project workspace resources.

If print Organizer is going to be the replacement for batch plot, One  would assume that it would work as well if not better than batch plot.and that it would utilize our project workspaces the way batch plot does. in addition we rely on Inroads and Geopak along with  several other Bentley programs to meet our deadlines, therefore these issues can impact any upgrades that we can make to V8i.
