Print Organizer can't generate certain line style when Level Overrides Display is selected in Define Print Style.

Does anyone have any ideas why certain line style won't generate in Print Organizer when level overrides option is selected in the define print style?  In my sheet SHT file I have sewer line with arrow showing as direction of flow between catch basins as well as pipe sizes. Also revision notes on upper right corner of the sheet. When level overrides display is selected, the line style generates as just simple straight line without arrow and pipe size in PDF. But when level overrides is not selected, the line style came out correct but some part of the revision notes don't generate.  I'm on MicroStation Selectt Series 2 version 08.11.07.443

  • If you print with no pen table, you should get WYSIWYG.

If the print style your using (I never use 'em) is assigning a pen table you'll have to look that.

  • YOu may also need to look at how your level overrides are set up. The entire point of level overrides is to change the symbology of elements.

If the override of your sewer line is defined as a solid line, then the override is doing exactly what you "told" it to. Also check the overrides for your revision notes; it is possible to have a level set ByLevel with Print OFF, but the level override set to Print ON, or for either the ByLevel or Override color to be RGB White (which won't show up on white prints). You can always preview what things will look like with your Overrides by switching that View flag on for one of your views. And if there are only certain levels that you want to have override properties, you can turn overrides off for all the other levels. All of this information is available in the Level Manager dialog.

Once you have looked through all of your level properties - both ByLevel and Override - and you are certain that everything there is set the way you will want things to print, then we can dig into your pen table.

  • Thanks. Where do I find By levet Print Off or Level overrides Print On?  I prefer to have overrides off because my line style came out good, but the issue here is with the revision notes which have design -corner text level and not all lines are generated in PDF.

  • If you open up the level manager you will have the option near the top of the dialog to switch back and forth between By Level or Override symbology.

Plot/no plot is a column that can be turned on in Level manager as well. If you don't see it automatically, right-click on the column headings area. That should open a list of possible columns you can make visible.

Also, check the color of the notes/lines that don't want to print. Not the color of the note level, but the actual color of the elements themselves (in the Properties dialog). I have had trouble before after copy/pasting text that came into my drawing as color 255, 255, 255. It looks the same as the default MicroStation "white" color on the screen, but 255, 255, 255 elements actually printed as white on the white paper, so they were invisible. That could be part of this as well.

The reason they print when you have the Overrides on is because those Overrides will take over the color of the elements on any level and force them to be the Override color. Your overrides are forcing the notes to print in a plottable color, when they naturally might not be visible.
