creating or printing PDF to match drawing file names

I have just loaded MicroStation PowerDraft CONNECT select Edition - PC - Microsoft Windows 10. Research for hours, but can't find the right answer and have been trying different ways.

I am trying to configure the software to print the PDFs to match the drawing name. Tried editing the pdf.pltcfg in the PRINT dialog box, but it's a READ ONLY file.

Why is this READ ONLY?

So I tried editing in NOTEPAD, but I don't have permission.

Why don't I have permission to edit my pltcfg file?

Is this something that should be changed in 'Configuration Variables'? I am thinking NO.

This is the line in the pdf.pltcfg file that I think should be edited....

<DefaultPrintFileName>$(MS_PLTFILES)$(basename(_DGNFILE))-$(MS_PLTMODELNAME)<autoInc?prefix=-?digits=3?base=0></DefaultPrintFileName>

I tried this ... <DefaultPrintFileName>$(MS_PLTFILES)$(basename(_DGNFILE)) BUT got the word DEFAULT at the end. "a2_1First-Default.pdf"

Thank you!

  • If things are "read-only", it's possible that they are stored in locations you do not have permissions for.

Try making a copy of your pdf.pltcfg to a location you KNOW you have access to (like your Documents folder). See if you can edit that copy, and use that. If so, it's definitely a Windows permissions issue, not a MicroStation problem.
