I've changed my cfg plot file setting to PRECISION = MAXIMUM and the resultant file is no better and less than 10% of the file size when PRECISION was set to STANDARD. Can anyone offer suggestions as to how to improve pdf quality?
I use the settings in the Printer Driver Configuration file. There are several. Can't say as I know how they all work together, but if you fiddle with them, you should get results.

Hi Bob and thank you for your help. The files in question don't have any rasters and i have my PRECISION set to maximum and my resolution set to 600. Maybe the detail is simply too small?
one thing that may be a clue, the ctrl+5 toggle for the line thicknesses does not work with our pdfs. I have tried with the LINE THICKNESS toggle turned off in MicroStation plot but it makes no difference
One of the main areas that determines line thickness onto paper (PDF) is by the Weight Maps tab in the Print Driver Configuration file. Based on the image you sent, it looks like the thinnest line you have shown is approximately 0.01" (6 dots) thick if it was created at 600 dpi. As you noted, scale of your drawing does also have a major role in determining the quality of the linework when you get zoomed in.
Yea, that's what it is. You should be seeing nice sharp output, but the lines are just too fat. Suggest you make a copy and modify, then use the copy.
