Hi,
I am using OpenRoads Designer CONNECT (2020 Release 3) alongside with ProjectWise. I am trying to automatically populate multiple fields from a border reference file. This border is referenced into each sheet, where the fields will have different information populating per sheet. Is there a way that each sheet can be populated with information tied to that sheet using the same field from the border? For example: "$DRAWN$" would be a field and this field will be populated with different names depending on what sheet it is on. Is there a way to do this through linking an Excel sheet (and without using Item Types as this is not automatic and would have to be done per sheet, defeating the purpose). Any help would be much appreciated.
Grayson,
Not sure if fields can link to Excel - though that would be cool. There is a way in ProjectWise to link titleblock info to tags(now item types I think) in the border. You can edit the attributes in the PW file propertes dialog and they update in the dgn file. You don't have to add the tags to each sheet file they get pulled in from the border somehow. This doesn't link to Excel, so if you have to edit the same item on a bunch of sheets you have to do this through the Properties, which is not as easy as editing in Excel.I never pushed this beyond the testing stage in my office because we had other ways of handling this and editing the sheet info in the file properties did not seem that much faster than editing the text in dgn file.Tom F.
text substution still works with pentables in pwise.and connect ord .so then add what you want into the ref file and at print time it should work. like $FILE_S$ etc this always worked before in v8i and as long as the print driver has a pentable and you have text substitution set up in the title block xref it works as intended for me. only drawback is only the list of allowed tokens is permitted and it doesn't have "drawn by" as an option..
But you could cheat and have set of xrefs title blocks with drawn by as text preset and use that xref as needed
or one title block with multiple drawn by levels and each one has the list of drafters in the right spot in text...
Personally I would just modify the title block xref levels to include several drawn by names ( future proofing) and fix the existing drawings via batch process script and scan ref this is the quickest way to do what you want no vba, no excel no text substitution variables..
you could even have a drawn by blank default level name so you can get drafters to change it later...
Then change the work flow in future drawings during placement of the title block xref have the drafter select their name level text.
BTW Batch processoring does work in pwise.. tested it last week ...in connect too...
