Trouble Printing with Hatches

Hi Philip,

can your provide more details about the printed PDF (size, resolution...), how it looks like (e.g. screen capture) and how it was created (using MicroStation pdf.pltcfg driver)?

I think it makes sense that hatching increases PDF size, because it adds a lot of geometry. But from your description it looks like everything is hatched. Is section , cross-section or e.g. complex pattern (cell) used?

 I am printing to pdf from microstation. It is the pattern STUCCO. 

Doesn't answer your question, but I would use a shape with fill, translucent (50%?) for that "pattern". You may need to set the new shape behind the other elements.

a lot of  people from acad world  use  hatching  when they really want a light  or low density fill to colour in a shape. you don; t have to use transparency  just use a very light grey colour  or make a custom colour but use true colour RGB  you don't want your printer or pentables overriding  your efforts you can set the fill colour to a new level and make sure its underneath everything via priorities.

To create  this shape turn off everything other than the shape you want coloured in.. and  use create region by flood and set it to the active level  to be the filled in colour level and set its  priority  to be  - 500  that way its definatley underneath everything..  might be a bit tricky with xrefs but you can work it out from there... Personally I dont like transparency fills as it make objects on top or underneath look like they have wrong colours like you have coloured sunglasses on when viewing ...
