Plot stamp suddenly not working. Any ideas?

it seems that several (personal) settings have changed. the most important on is the plot date stamp. 
 I've followed all the directions I can find, with no luck.

are you using pentables and textsubstitution ie $DATE$? is it on a non plot level by mistake ? I have this in my titleblock sheet at the inner edge of the inner border so its still in printable area...also $FILEL$ and $TIME$ 
 the $FILEL$ is the full file path where the dgn was printed from pretty handy in back tracking pdfs and where they come from 
 there is also an option for user ( who opened and printed the dgn) and scale but I dont want those
