This is a stretch, but here goes...In v7 there was an option in Workspace where you could dictate that text had to be printed with solid lines and not the linestyles of the level. That option has been gone since v8 when Bentley changed it so that text always printed as solid lines. We have switched over to using iCS through ProjectWise and it seems to be printing the old v7 way where it prints the text with the linestyle of the level. Bentley's support is atrociously non-responsive (seriously, I've gotten so many people involved and I can't even get "support" to respond) so I'm trying my own solutions. I want to try to see if anybody remembers the variable that was in v7 that you could set so that text had to print as solid lines and then try adding that to our current workspace so when the iCS picks up the sheet to print it picks up that variable also. No guarantee it'll work but since Bentley has literally not answered me I need to try something. So, does anybody remember what that variable was? Bentley has no documentation that I can find on this.Thank you,Chris Williams
Hi Chris,

I think you mean this Preferences (not Workspace) settings?
Christopher Williams said:to be printed with solid lines and not the linestyles of the level.
In V7, as far as I remember, levels had no line styles assigned (when override was not used), but typically individual elements had own attributes assigned.

Yes, this change can be found mentioned in many older discussions (like this one).
I guess one from reasons was that not only RSC fonts, that are technically simple individual geometries, TrueTypes started to be supported.

It was not variable, but User preference setting.

I do not think it's possible, because this option was removed when MicroStation V8 was implemented.
I guess, but it would require more detail analysis of iCS and used workspace configuration. Maybe Pen table or Design Script is applied, when DGN is printed? Or, as in the discussion I linked above, the text is displayed not solid because broken associations are highlighted?

Jan,
Thank you for the very indepth answer. I had found the thread you mentioned above also but it wasn't much help for my problem which is why I was asking the question.
My days of Microstation began with about 2 months of V7 and then on to V8 so my memory of it is very small. I feel like lots of user preferences in V8i can be set via a variable in the workspace so I was hoping for something similar with V7 if anybody remembered it.
We continue to test, and unfortunately I have a solution which is to go through and make sure all test is set to linestyle 0, which I have a bat to do, but I was hoping there was some other solution that didn't require that grunt work.
Or, you know, Bentley to actually respond to the support ticket I filed.
Thanks again,Chris Williams

Both V7 and V8 are now obsolete and unsupported products.
Christopher Williams said:I feel like lots of user preferences in V8i can be set via a variable in the workspace
In my opinion it is not true. Only some settings can be set both in Preferences and Workspace, and even then, often different aspects, not exactly the same thing, is set.

I think the overall idea is wrong: The discussed setting was removed from V8, so try to configure V8 in the same way as V7, simply does not work.

The problem must be analyzed, not tested. So far you shared only very limited set of information, and no test case, even not basic screen capture of result: What font is used (rsc, shx, TrueType...), are styles used, how it looks when it is printed directly from MicroStation (what version) to e.g. PDF, what model is printed (design, sheet)...? Without details, there is no way how guess what can cause wrong output.
I have no access to iCS, but you should to compare configuration (preferences + workspace + dgnlibs) when tested direclty from MicroSstation (is such print correct?) and through iCS (where it does not work). Something is likely set differently, maybe pen table, maybe Desidgn script is applied...

I am not sure what do you mean by "grunt work". By default, all texts are printed as solid. A maximum I was able to change (very quick test done) was rsc font to be rendered as not solid, using Pen table.

There is Request an update button available in Service Request details. Or you can call your partner or Bentley office directly. But, as I wrote above, in my opinion there is not enough information to analyze problem and to find solution.
