Mask Reference Print Issue

I am using the Mask Reference tool with Merge Mask Contents turned on so that it copies the masked reference elements. I am then deleting/manipulating those copied elements in the drawing model. They look fine in the drawing model and even the sheet model, but when i go to print the deleted merged/copied elements are appearing on the PDF, see attached screenshot. Any ideas as to why this is happening?
